Classifier Entity Extractor SureGene SureChem

SureGene

SureGene enables users to quickly find literature that's actually about the genes they are interested in and eliminates the frustration caused by ambiguous gene names and synonyms. In the words of one SureGene user, "we were impressed by its ability to narrow the range of papers to [desired] targets and weed out the ones of limited relevance, and by the accuracy it delivers through the use of all synonyms for the genes."

Powered by Reel Two's Classification System, SureGene automatically assigns gene names to their Entrez-Gene ID (a.k.a. LocusLink ID) in PubMed abstracts. Because it analyzes the context of the articles, rather than just searching for keywords, SureGene is not confused by the presence (or absence) of gene synonyms, incorrect gene name references or non-genetic synonyms.

The current version of SureGene includes coverage for 8,300 human genes, which includes most genes well characterized in the literature. Abstracts indexed by PubMed up until approximately one week ago are included in the searches.

SureGene 1.1 (available Q1 2005) will include coverage for all 38,000 genes with LocusLink IDs, as well as additional analysis features such as gene co-occurence, phrase extraction and key gene name and phrase contextual views.

SureGene is offered as a hosted service or as an on-site installation. In addition to PubMed, the system can be used with proprietary databases. Reel Two can also provide custom SureGene modules for additional human genes or genes for other organisms.
